Our free guide for anyone flying from Stockholm (or elsewhere in the Nordics) to Nepal. It sums up published fare data from two independent price trackers, so you know what a good price looks like before you book. Figures are in Swedish kronor for a return economy ticket and were checked in October 2026; fares change daily, so use them as benchmarks, not quotes.
1. The price benchmarks
- Typical return fare: KAYAK puts the typical Arlanda–Kathmandu return at 10,744–13,519 kr (average 12,066 kr over the past 12 months) and counts anything under 10,744 kr as a good deal.
- Most common price paid: När och Vart's analysis of 17,465 Stockholm–Kathmandu fares found the most common price band was 7,749–8,302 kr, with an overall average of 9,863 kr.
- The floor: in the same data, fares ranged from about 5,535 kr to 13,837 kr. Only around 2% of tickets sold at the very bottom of that range.
Rule of thumb: under about 8,000 kr return is a very good price, 8,000–10,500 kr is normal, and over 12,000 kr is worth waiting on if your dates are flexible.
2. Best and worst months to fly
- Cheapest: När och Vart's data has September as the cheapest month on average (8,955 kr); KAYAK's 12-month data points to February (10,434 kr median).
- Most expensive: both trackers agree October is the dearest month (10,926 kr average in När och Vart's data, 12,792 kr median on KAYAK), because it is peak trekking season. November and July are also on the high side.
- Sweet spot: late February to March and December (outside Christmas week) combine good mountain weather with fares below the October peak. See our month-by-month Nepal planner for the weather side.
3. When to book
- KAYAK's data shows travellers who book about 7 weeks ahead save roughly 13% compared with last-minute bookings.
- For October trips, book early: demand is highest, and När och Vart found October departures were cheapest when booked many months in advance.
- Cheapest days: KAYAK reports Wednesday departures average 6% below the typical day and Sundays 6% above; När och Vart's data favours Tuesdays both ways. Mid-week is your friend.
4. The connecting hubs
There are no nonstop flights from Stockholm to Kathmandu. According to KAYAK, one-stop trips most often connect in Dubai (46% of one-stop bookings), Doha (20%), Istanbul (18%) and Bangkok (17%). Doha had the lowest average one-stop fare (12,457 kr), while Istanbul had the shortest average total journey (about 15 h 26 min one way).
5. Three cheaper routes worth checking
Route 1: start in Copenhagen. När och Vart's comparison of Nordic departure airports found Copenhagen the cheapest on average for Kathmandu (9,597 kr, a few hundred kronor below Stockholm), with more airline choice. A cheap SAS, Norwegian or train trip to Kastrup can still leave you ahead, especially for families. Check that the saving covers the extra journey.
Route 2: low-cost to a hub, then on to Kathmandu. Many of the cheapest fares in the trackers combine a budget carrier to Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen (Pegasus), Sharjah or Dubai with an onward flight to Kathmandu. These can undercut full-service fares by thousands of kronor. If you book the two legs on separate tickets, you are responsible for the connection: leave a long layover (ideally a night), and check baggage rules on both airlines.
Route 3: via China or India. Air China (via Beijing and Chengdu) appeared among the cheapest return fares on KAYAK in autumn 2026, and routes via Delhi or Mumbai (for example with IndiGo) also show up at low prices. The catch is time: many of these itineraries take 30+ hours, so they suit flexible travellers more than short holidays. Check transit-visa rules for your passport.
6. Your quick checklist
- Set your target: aim for under 10,000 kr return, and pounce under 8,000 kr.
- Search a few days either side of your dates, favouring Tuesday or Wednesday.
- Compare Stockholm with Copenhagen departures.
- Avoid October if price matters more than peak-season weather.
- Read the baggage rules before you compare: the cheapest fares often exclude checked bags.
- Get travel insurance that covers the altitude you plan to trek to, and an eSIM for arrival.
